SO I’m moving on …

Social Media, Marketing, Toronto, Andrew Fraser Stewart, Andrew F Stewart, Andrew Stewart, Public Relations

As you all know, just over a year ago I had the privilege of joining the wonderful team at one of Canada’s most award winning agencies - Strategic Objectives.  SO prides itself on creating news worthy PR programs that generate awesome results. In my capacity as Community Manager, I had a unique opportunity in helping this team bring the same strategic approach to the digital realm to generate real social buzz and online coverage. Over the past year I have learned a lot about traditional PR, marketing strategy and digital implementation – but mostly, how it all works together. Along with these key learnings I have made some amazing friends that I will be forever in admiration of. It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I will be leaving Strategic Objectives for a new opportunity.

I have accepted a position at Edelman Canada as an Account Manager. This move signifies a big change for me and one I am excited to make. In moving ahead, I am looking forward to new challenges, working with their great team and using all of the wonderful knowledge and skills I’ve acquired to help build and work on some amazing digital and PR strategies and programs. I know some great people who work for Edelman already and I’m very excited to meet many more.

A heart warming Card from @DebWeinstein

To my SO friends: Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am leaving with hugs from both partners, that means a lot to me.

To my new colleagues at Edelman: Hold on, it’s gonna get awesome!

ScotiaBank AIDS Walk 2011 Key Learnings

As some of you may know I am the Social Media Head for the ScotiaBank AIDS Walk for Life steering committee. This was my second year in this voluntary position and by far my most entrenched.  This year was our best and most successful on many! Although our final numbers are still coming in but we know we surpassed last years amount … and raised … over $430,000 so far! We also exceeded attendees with roughly 4,000 participants. We couldn’t be happier.

A few key learning’s I had this year were:

  • The importance of a Facebook ad buy to support your efforts online efforts.
  • The importance  of making sure that ad buy directs people to your fostering community.
  • Challenging your community and encouraging them is a great way to spur sharable content and produce interesting conversation
  • Live posting shouldn’t be live at all. If you have a well thought out timeline and critical path, you should also have pre-constructed messages made so all you have to do is put in your images.
  • Get a WiFi sponsor for the event.
  • Figure out who the influencers within the community you have built are and build on those relationship and conversations.

Special thanks to my friends over at ACT Toronto, GayBachelorBlog, and SantaMargh Canada

Twitter, faster than an earthquake

I am posting this for two reasons:

A. It’s cute.

B. I love how quick and timely the Twitter marketing team is.

A picture of where we are going …

Now that Twitter has launched its photo gallery pulling service “User Gallery’s” that automatically pulls your awesome snap shots from service such as yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram or and even the dreaded ”Lockerz” – What does this mean for the overall social experience?

For yonks now I have been talking on twitter about how much I love the photo sharing / filter loving site Instagram. To me, a picture is worth a million words and Instagram (among other photo sharing sites) is where we are going. Augmented reality, tweet pics, flicker mobile and G+ photo sharing / video hangouts lead me to believe (ecstatically) that we are becoming even more image driven in our social experience. I have friends @MonikaRola & @Reddinthecity that use Instagram even more than Facebook and twitter. For personal and corporate use I thing Instagram is a fantastic service. One of the best uses of a brand making the most of the app is The Hudson’s Bay Company (SO Client, though I don’t work on that account), The retro filters work perfectly with this hipster chic brand!

With photos taking the main stage over the 140 character hyperlinked messages where do you see us going next, video? Maybe 12seconds.tv was just a little before its time…
